HAMILTON, Dr. Lorne Daniel

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorne Hamilton announces his death, after an amazing life of almost 101 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Edith Neal, who passed away in 1994. He is survived by his two children, Claire Wilson (Michael) of Toronto and Dr. David Hamilton (Claire) of Montreal. He also leaves his grandchildren, Susanna Weeks (Michael) of Barrie, William Wilson (Dawn) of Toronto, Jennifer Harrington (David) of Toronto and Andrew Hamilton (Kashi Tees) of Montreal, as well as six great- grandchildren. He was the dear and devoted friend of Shirley Rennie for 15 wonderful years. Lorne was born in Kenora, Ontario and lived in Montreal since 1933. He obtained his B.A. and M.A. from McGill and his Ed.D. from Harvard University in 1953. With the exception of six years during the Second World War, when he served as a commissioned officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, he was a teacher, principal and senior administrator with the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal. In honour of his contribution to education, he was awarded the Order of Scholastic Merit by the Government of Quebec. He was blessed with a powerful intellect that stayed with him throughout his life. Visitation will take place on Friday December 2, 2011 at 10 am followed by a funeral service in the Chapel of the Funeral Home at 11 am.
