CASWELL, Clive Browning M.D., O.B.E., M. C., Col. R. C.A.M. C

Colonel Caswell received the Order of the British Empire during the Korean Campaign and his Military Cross during the W.W. II campaign in Italy. Born in 1910 at Ormsby, Ontario to the Reverend John Tristan and Mrs. Edith (nee Eaton) Caswell, he attended Queen's University Kingston, Ontario and graduated from Medicine in 1936. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Military Corps, and served from 1940 until December 1945, overseas with the 9th Field Ambulance. He stayed on for seven months after WW II's end in order to help rehabilitate Dutch citizens, many of whom were ill and starving, and to help with the demobilization of two Army Divisions in the Netherlands. Returning home he graduated from the University of Toronto in Public Health, and later, in Industrial Hygiene having rejoined the Army at their request. At the age of 42 he learned to parachute in order to take a contingent into Korea, he headed up, at that time, the only Canadian Airborne Field Ambulance Corps, Canada had known. His last posting was in Halifax as Chief Medical Officer for the Eastern Seaboard. He retired from the Army in 1963, after 23 years in his country's service, and took a position as Staff Physician at the W. C.B. Hospital in Toronto, Ontario 1963 - 1975. He leaves to mourn his treasured children, their dear mother Gwen Caswell (nee Handley) having passed away in 1971. C., Anthony (Gosia) Cox, Georgetown, ON., Gwen Cox, Mississauga, ON., Colin Bryant, Toronto, ON., Lara (Christopher) Barnard, Toronto, ON., Samantha (Tony) Schieman, Toronto, ON., Joshua Caswell, Ottawa, ON., Jacob Caswell, Milton, ON., Erin Reed of B. C., Colin Reed of B. C., Matthew (Michelle) Musseluis, Vancouver, B. C., and Rebecca Musseluis, Vancouver, B. C. His great grandchildren Suzanne, Benjamin and Luke Robillard, Sarah and Grady Cox, Samuel and Zoe Barnard, and Evelyn and Ella Schieman. Predeceased by his two brothers Arthur (Ruth) Caswell and Gordon (Marguerite) Caswell and his two sisters Sally (Stewart) Waddell and Eileen (Lyle) Macdonald. He also leaves to mourn a dear brother Ivan 'Bud' Caswell of Kingston, ON., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his wife of thirty four years Gail Caswell (nee Elizabeth Gail Saunders) and her children Robin Sully (Antek) Kulscy, Fitzroy Harbour, Ottawa, Mark Sully, Goderich, ON., and Michael (Anne) Sully, Coquitlam, B. C., Gail's grandchildren Simon and Jasmine Kubski, Justin, 'D.J.', Kate and Maximilien Sully and Jay, Alexander, and Elizabeth Sully, will also miss their Poppa. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
