McCREARY, Ruth Eleanor (nee Rawlins)

In her 100th year, died quietly on November 18, 2009. Daughter of James and Helen (Munroe) Rawlins and sister of Elizabeth (Wood). Ruth was born in Copper Cliff, Ontario on September 5, 1910. She moved to Port Colborne with her family and later attended Queen's University in Kingston. Ruth relocated to Toronto where she met and married Doctor John Ferguson McCreary. She was a volunteer at Red Oaks School, part of South Peel Association for the Mentally Retarded. Ruth lived on her own until a recent flood caused her to move from her apartment. She was just settling in to her new home at Sunrise in Richmond Hill. She will be sorely missed by her son Jamie and his wife Deborah Cross, nieces Eleanor (the late Gerry Myers), and Nancy (Barry Bonfield) and their families. Ruth will be fondly remembered by her wonderful extended Cross Family and the nieces and nephews will miss Aunt McCreary's cookies. She was a good friend over the years to her many caregivers. A reception in her honour will be held on Tuesday, November 24 from 2-4 p.m. at Michael's Back Door Restaurant, 1715 Lakeshore Rd. W. (at Clarkson Rd.) in Clarkson, Ontario (please enter from the parking at the rear). If desired, donations to the Salvation Army or to the Canadian Cancer Society may be made in her memory.
