1910 - 2011 - The death of Pauline Marie Darrah (age 100), widow of C. Cecil Darrah (1978) occurred peacefully at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Nursing Home on Friday, March 18, 2011. Born in Kentville, NS, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. Downey and Clara (Fielding) Downey. Pauline grew up on the family farm in Highbury (New Minas), NS. At the age of fifteen, Pauling graduated from the Kings County Academy, Kentville, NS with the highest average in the Grade 12 provincial exams. She attended the Maritime Business College in Halifax, NS and worked for Eastern Canada Savings and Loan until her marriage in Sydney, NS in 1938. Moving to Moncton in 1940, she stayed at home to raise her daughters. For twelve years, until Cecil retired, she tutored many high school students, mainly in mathematics and science. Retiring to Hopewell Cape, NB, she returned to Moncton following Cecil's death in 1978. Pauline was a long time member of Wesley Memorial United Church. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Doris (Jim) Feltham, Charlottetown, PEI and children Erick (Pippa), Graeme (Shannon), Gail and Scott (Janet); Elaine (Bill) Cooper of Moncton and children Zoe (Tod), Bill (Patricia), Jill (Randy) and Romy; Joyce Parsons of Moncton and children Susan (Andrew) and Andrew (Susan); great grandchildren Ryan, Joshua and Jacob; Andrew, Matthew and Kate; Henry and Charlotte; Micah and Naomi; Aiden; Hector; Harrison, Rachel and Jillian; sister-in-law, Berdie Darrah and nine nieces and nephews. Pauline was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Lewis and Glen (Kerry); sister, Helena (Fred) Harvey; brother-in-law, Ken Darrah; sisters-in-law, Annie (John) Urquhart and Eleanor (Reg) Duffy; son-in-law, Ted Parsons and nephew, Stephen Darrah. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staffs of McNair Manor and Spencer Nursing Home for the care and kindness shown to our mother over the past thirteen years.

Respecting Pauline's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, 1167 Salisbury Road, Moncton on Saturday April 2, 2011 at 1:30 pm, followed by a reception at Steeves Memorial United Church, 280 Salisbury Road, Moncton. In Pauline's memory, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Huntington Society of Canada, the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
