HIERLIHY, Herbert Philip

In his 100th year, Herb passed away November 22, 2010 in Oakville, ON surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born in Tabusintac, New Brunswick on May 7, 1911 to Martha nee Hornibrook and Philip Hierlihy. Predeceased by 6 brothers and 2 sisters, he is survived by his brother Wesley in St. Albert, AB. Herb lived in Edmundston, NB for most of his life, delighting in all life had to offer with Jessie nee Hutchison, his wife of 67 years. Herb enjoyed curling, golfing, and square dancing and was a devoted member of St. Paul's United Church and the Masonic Lodge. He had a 48-year career with Fraser Companies, retiring in 1976. When Jessie predeceased him in 2003, he moved to Trafalgar Lodge in Oakville to be near his family and has been at the centre of many happy gatherings with them. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by a wide circle of extended family and special friends. He is survived by his children Joan Gee (Brian) of Whitby and Tom (Sue) of Oakville, and his grandchildren: Cathy (Todd Carter), Carol (Steve Day), Susan (Tom Osborne), Lynn (Jonathon Hamburg), John (Christin Moss). His treasured great grandchildren are: Matthew and Sarah Carter, Ellen and Madeleine Day, Benjamin, David and Rachel Hamburg, Aiden and Charlotte Hierlihy. A service to celebrate Herb's long and happy life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 25, 2010 in St. John's United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville.
